Landlord without boiler safety certificate fined

Posted on 21 Aug 2007

Hounslow landlord Jasjit Dhami has been fined £1,000 and ordered to pay over £1,000 in costs after it was discovered the Boiler at his rental property in the Wheatlands area did not have a valid CORGI safety certificate.

By law all landlords must protect their tenants safety with regard to gas appliances, and an up-to-date CORGI certificate for the boiler is a must, legally and for safety reasons.

We'd encourage landlords not to skimp on this essential annual service, and bear in mind it's not just the right thing to do: it's good business sense. A problem with gas appliances, particularly a gas boiler, can be lethal, and the ramifications of an accident for your rental operation could be no less so.
